Overview
Farming is an important aspect of Onmyoji and having a strategy can make the players’ lives much easier. In fact, players would spent most of their time farming for experience, coins, Souls, and awakening materials in this game. There are many factors that the players have to consider when trying to farm efficiently. One of them is to farm with as many fodders as you can.
Fodders are N-Shikigamis whose main purpose is to feed to other Shikigamis for level up or star up. Essentially all Ns are for this purpose only. Consider that it takes a total of 205 fodders to get a 2-star to a 6-star, the players have much grinding to do.

With so much grinding, the players should bring as many fodders on the farming team as possible.
Set up
High Level Kagura: Kagura, Fodder 1, Fodder 2, Fodder 3, Optional: Fodder 4, Fodder 5
Low Level Kagura: Seimei, AOE DPS, Fodder 1, Fodder 2, Optional: Fodder 3, Fodder 4
The best case scenario is to have a high level Kagura to carry the 5 fodders. A maxed level Kagura, both Rank and Guardian Beast, should be able to easily solo Exploration Chapter 16/17 Difficult. Without her, the team can use another AOE DPS, such as Ubume/Kuro Mujou, for damage output. However, this means one less fodder to take advantage of the experience points.
Some fodders make farming easier. The obvious ones are the Dharma eggs. Most notably the White Dharma which only need half as much experience to level up. I recommend players to level up White ones to 5-star and use it for 6-star evolution, as 4-star to 5-star is the hardest grind. Red eggs offer 1.5x of a normal N fodder. Blue eggs off 15x of a Red egg. See the Dharma eggs guide for how to optimize their use.
Dharma eggs are scarce resources and not every player has access to 120 White eggs to make a 6-star. Eventually, players will need to farm with other N-fodders. To make matter a little bit easier, some fodders makes farming easier. Out of all N-Shikigamis, you would want to conserve Akashita and Red Imp because these two can competently act as support for the Farming Team.
When Farming, Kagura takes the role of DPS with her [Summon: Fish] and [Summon: Purgatory], and most fodders are too weak to step up in any of the roles in the team. Except for Akashita and Red Imp. Akashita has a special attack that has an AOE effect to push back enemies’ move bar. It can fill in the role of Accelerator. Red Imp has a special attack to taunt so it can act as defensive support. I am hesitant to recommend Blue Imp even though it can act as Speed Support because there may not be enough Orb to go around. However, if the players choose to equip the fodders with Fortune Cat Soul, Blue Imp is a viable option.
Example:
If you have plenty of White Dharmas and a high level Kagura, let Kagura solo carrying all Dharmas. As an example, at rank 48 and fully upgraded Guardian Beast, she can solo Exploration Chapter 16 Hard mode. At rank 48, she should be very safe farming Explorations except Chapter 18. I recommend Chapter 16 because the monsters are easier to deal with.
In descending Speed: Kagura (with [Fish] and [Purgatory]), Akashita, Akashita, Red Imp, Fodder 1, Fodder 2. However, Kagura solo takes a bit longer without the help of an additional DPS.
Again, this is given that the players ran out of White Dharma Eggs or choose to conserve the eggs.
I used 2 Akashitas because usually that can successfully delay a majority of enemies’ actions if they are not immune to status effect. However, they would compete for Orbs.
Soul:
AOE DPS (Ubume) – 4-set of Shadow to burst down enemies. Focus on attack for fast farming
Fodder 1 (Akashita) – 4-set of Mirror Maiden, Clam, or Fortune Cat; focusing on Speed to inflict status effect.
Fodder 2 (Akashita) – 4-set of Mirror Maiden, Clam, or Fortune Cat; focusing on Speed to inflict status effect or HP for damage output by Mirror Maiden.
Fodder 3 (Red Imp) – 4-set of Mirror Maiden; focusing on HP for damage output by Mirror Maiden especially when its taunt increases damage taken.
Fodder 4 – 4-set of Mirror Maiden or Clam; focusing on HP for damage output by Mirror Maiden
Fodder 5 – 4-set of Mirror Maiden or Clam; focusing on HP for damage output by Mirror Maiden
As mentioned above, if the players have enough Fortune Cat to go around, some fodders can equip Fortune Cat to make use of Blue Imp as Speed Support.
The key to this Farming strategy is to use Mirror Maiden to reflect damage 30% of the time. Thus increase farming efficiency. The 4-set Clam is only meant to take advantage of its AOE shield but it should be use only if there is not enough Mirror Maiden.
Advantage:
- Efficient Farming
Disadvantage:
- Requires a high level Kagura but that is a slower grind
- Or requires a strong AOE DPS but that is a little bit inefficient (It also doesn’t help if the AOE DPS is the one you are trying to get to 6-star)
- Need players to test themselves which stage they can do as new fodders are placed in the team
Discussion:
Some players opt to only fight enemies with 2x Exp buff, with the Exp label floating around them. Then quit and re-enters if the boss does not appear. This is the most efficient Exp/EN but does not get the drops from Bosses. For new players, drops from Bosses are often worthwhile. For experienced players who want to make their Shikigamis strong in a timely basis for arena, then fighting only the 2x Exp buffs are more efficient.

Tip of the Day
Make use of the Soul box for easy switch – when switch Souls between fodders, put the set into the box. Then place the set onto the new fodder. This way the players don’t need to place Souls again one by one.
