Evolution Ability Enhance [Demonic Blade: Rajomon]: After attacking, inflicts a follow-up attack on the target if their HP is below 85%, dealing damage equal to 125% of his ATK.  If the target’s HP is now under 65%, inflicts another follow-up attack on all enemies dealing 125% of his ATK.  Follow up attacks ignore shields, cannot be shared, and do not trigger Soul and Passive effects.  Upon Evolving, Onikiri’s Effect RES increases by 50% for 1 turn.

Discussion:

With S rank on ATK, SPD, and Crit %, there is no reason not to build Onikiri as a DPS.

Shadow is the first one that comes to mind.  With Shadow’s help, Onikiri has a much better time cutting down the enemy’s HP for the additional AOE attack.  This should effectively lower enemies’ HP and likely to take out one enemy in the process.

Scarlet is probably the most popular choice when partnered with Shouzu.  This soul lets Onikiri attack outside his turn with the hopes of triggering his Passive for the AOE attack.  This soul is probably the most suitable for Onikiri in many situations.

Seductress is definitely a viable option.  I think Shadow is more effective in PvP, whereas Seductress may have more useful in PvE.

Dice Sprite is a soul that many players missed since it’s harder to obtain.  This soul is surprisingly well suited for Onikiri because enemies will try to control him in PvP.  By using Dice Sprite and having a high Effect RES, Onikiri can deal quite a bit of damage and catch enemies off guard.

Sub stats a very straightforward here with the common Crit Dmg for DPSs.  For PvP, I suggest Effect RES at position 4.  To couple with Kagura, Onikiri will need some speed to be faster than her.

Sample Team

Shouzu, Hannya, Onikiri, Miketsu, Inugami, with Kagura

Kamaitachi, Shouzu, Ame Onna, Juzu, Onikiri, with Seimei

Hannya, Hououga, Hana, Onikiri, Higabana, with Seimei

Enma, Kamaitachi, Samurai X, Onikiri, Kaguya, with Kagura

Onikiri is becoming the default DPS since his appearance.  For PvE, there are better choices depending on the fight but there is really no match in PvP.  If he can get enough protection from teammates, he’ll make a meaningful impact every time he attacks.  It also probably won’t take too many hits from him to end the fight.  He can be in fast teams to finish off the fight before enemies attack or he can fit into slow teams to counter enemy control units.  In many cases, whoever’s Onikiri is faster would likely win the fight for there is really nothing to stop Oniki’s follow up attack.

PvP

Onikiri is very popular in the fast team if there are right units and Soul.   The key is to be able to make the first move.  Often, these type of teams consists of Enma to seal the enemies’ Shouzu or other key units.  Once you have the first mover’s advantage, the fight is likely decided.

Soul

Onikiri can take over Yoto Hime’s role if you are still using her as the finisher in Orochi.  He’ll still need Ibaraki or Tamamo to make effective Soul runs.

PVE

Scarlet Onikiri works really well with Secret stages alongside Shouzu, two healers, and another DPS like Inugami.

Shikigami Comparison

Arakawa Lord – While Arakawa is still the more direct solution for Shouzu, he’s becoming obsolete with the many DPSs coming out that could counter Shouzu.  Onikiri is one of them.  While the damage Onikiri’s active attack still gets transferred through, his passive ignores pretty much anything that could reduce damage or cause harm for the attacker.  This passive AOE attack is superior to Arakawa’s single target in my opinion.  Arakawa has the better chance to take out one enemy shikigami right off the bat but Onikiri wins at overall damage and protection for the attacker.

Ibaraki Doji – Ibaraki and Onikiri are similar in that they are both technically a Single Target DPS but have the potential to deal AOE damage.  However, their role does not overlap for Ibaraki excels in Boss fights and farming, while Onikiri is better with Secret and PvP.  I would G6 them both for they are both top Shikigamis in their role.

Verdict

Onikiri is no doubt the best DPS in PvP right now.  The fact that he can deal AOE damage while being protected from adverse effects is unprecedented.  This means the team does not necessarily need a Hannya to go before the AOE DPS if you are running a fast team.  This somewhat combines the two roles and frees a spot on the team.

Onikiri’s passive can activate on Clam shield so it’s possible for him to clear enemies’ shields in the first round.

This Shikigami essentially revitalized fast teams in PvP.  Now, fast teams are more assured that their Onikiri would not get adverse effects with the AOE attack on the enemies.  This greatly reduced PvP battle time.  For me, this is a big plus.

Farming (4.0/5.0)

Onikiri is one of the strongest hitters in the game.  Though he’s not as fast as Tamamo or Ibaraki under same Crit Dmg Shadow set.

Duel/Raid (5.0/5.0)

Pretty much the default DPS in PvP nowadays.

Boss Battles (4.0/5.0)

Onikiri does good damage but I find him hard to dethrone Ibaraki and Shuten.  He also doesn’t work too well with Ushi no Toki since the doll doesn’t really go down in HP for his passive to kick in.

Soul (4.0/5.0)

He can be the final attacker to finish Orochi but not as good as Ibaraki Doji and Tamamo no Mae.

He is an essential G6 in PvP with a need for full skill up.  You wouldn’t regret it.  Especially when there are Onikiris everywhere in Duel.  You’d be at a disadvantage otherwise.  Still, he’s a super strong Shikigami but not invincible.  Without proper support, he would crumble like all others.  For the next little while, expect the faster team with Onikiri to win the fight since we are back to the speed game in Duel.
