Position 2/4/6: SPD or ATK/ATK or Effect HIT/Crit % or Crit Dmg

Discussion:

Jr. Ootengu is very easy to equip since we got Ootengu as a predecessor.  Essentially, this little guy should be equipped as a multi-hit AOE DPS.

Seductress is the best-suited Soul since his multi-hit attack has more chance to trigger the Soul.  Claw works the same way and Shingan is useful for finishing enemies off.

Of course, another familiar set up is to build up Effect HIT for Mimic.

Jr. Ootengu can pretty much use the same Seductress set as  Ootengu, Ubume, Kisei, etc.  Consider SPD if you are pairing him up with Kagura.  The goal is to have high enough Crit % then maximizing Crit Dmg.

Sample Team

Kamaitachi, Yamausagi, Kaguya, Ootengu, Jr. Ootengu, with Kagura

Kamikui, Ibaraki Doji, Ushi no Toki, Jr. Ootengu, Zashiki, with Seimei

As a DPS, Jr. Ootengu could replace Ootengu in some fights.  He could fit into our favourite Double Pull team by finishing off enemies after the Ootengu AOE wave.  Alternatively, he can partner up with Ushi no Toki and try to take on Orochi in Soul 10.

PvP

He passive gives him certain protection against status effects in Duel.  I feel that he could be better off in a fast team to take out a few key enemy units at the get-go.  His passive does not offer enough protection against control effects to take linger.

Soul

With Ushi no Toki, he could deal more damage to Orochi than Kisei.  I would say he’s a competitive candidate for the S10 team.

PVE

Again, Jr. Ootengu partners well with Ushi no Toki which makes him a viable team member whenever Ushi is used in PvE

Shikigami Comparison

Ootengu – This should be the natural comparison without question.  Jr. Ootengu is basically derived from Ootengu.  They have similar normal, passive, and special attacks.  In my opinion, Jr. Ootengu is still inferior to Ootengu for the fact that his special attack is not true AOE and is, therefore, less useful.   Ootengu also has a status shield as a passive whereas Jr. Ootegnu can only speed up under a status effect.  In some situations, though, Jr. Ootengu can deal more damage if his attack can concentrate on a few enemies.

Verdict

Jr. Ootengu does not stand out at all as we would expect from the first SP Shikigami.  He is outclassed by Ootengu and has trouble finding his place in a lot of teams.  The reason is not that he’s very weak, but because we simply have better suited Shikigamis in a lot of places right now.  Due to his randomness, he is not very suited for PvP.  In PvE, it is the Shikigami that can partner up with Ushi no Toki that is prioritized.  In this case, Jr. Ootengu has the advantage in Totem fights.  For Totem fights, he is easily the best DPS as the targets are limited for other AOE DPS to take effect.

Farming (2.5/5.0)

While Jr. Ootengu is a competent DPS, he cannot carry fodders efficiently because he can only attack 3 enemies at a time and Exploration farming has 4 enemies per fight.

Duel/Raid (3.5/5.0)

He could fit well in double pull teams if you don’t have a better DPS.  Having said that, this means he’ll be better in Raid than Duel since enemies have less HP.

Boss Battle (3.5/5.0)

He is a viable option if you lack other DPSs.  Especially in Namazu fights where there are a limited number of targets.

Soul (3.0/5.0)

Again, he is viable but not the first choice.  Working well with Ushi no Toki is great, but no DPS can dethrone Tamamo no Mae in this category yet.

Whether to invest in Jr. Ootengu depends on where you are at the game and your love for him.  If you are starting out the game and in need of a semi AOE DPS, he’ll make do for now.  Though, I would not G6 him for there are better SSR, or even SR, out there.  I doubt there would be much future makeover for him in terms of skill since he is so closely tied to Ootengu.  For people who played for a while and have a well-established team for all scenarios, Jr. Ootengu is more a collection Shikigami.
