If he fails to defeat the enemy, he gains a layer of Enraged Arm, increasing his damage by 33%. Enraged Arm stacks up to 3 layers. Splash damage becomes 100% upon Evolving. |

Discussion No matter how you build Ibaraki Doji for EXP Grinding, Soul Farming, or even Raid battles, the Soul [Shadow] is the best way to go. Shadow’s effect will also apply to the splash damage. Few other players may choose to use Soul [Watcher] if they don’t have sufficient speed to be the first Shikigami to attack. After the attack of the first Shikigami (e.g. Ootengu with Soul [Seductress], some of the enemies may now have less than 30% HP which allows Ibaraki to finish off with his splash damage. The advantage of Soul [Shadow] is the 2-set effect of 15% Critical %, which makes it easier to reach 100% Critical Chance. You may think that having it at 80% is good enough, but I’m sure you will curse and swear if you fail to score a critical hit several times in a row even at 80% chance (happened to me a lot).

As mentioned, Ibaraki Doji is not that good in Arena unless your Souls are insanely strong. Nevertheless, you may use the following lineups as a guideline.
Arena PvP 1. Kamaitachi, Yamausagi, Zashiki, Ibaraki Doji, Ubume/Ootengu/Yoto Hime, with Kagura [Dual Accelerator build] Having Kamaitachi and Yamausagi functioning as dual pull units will ensure that you have the first chance of attack. However, that is assuming that your Kamaitachi has higher speed compared to your opponent.b. Ibaraki can first deal heavy damage on the first hit, while Ubume will clear the remaining Shikigamis. This can be reversed depending on Soul such that Ubume attacks first and Ibaraki cleans up. Ibaraki can first deal heavy damage on the first hit, while Ubume will clear the remaining Shikigamis. This can be reversed depending on Soul such that Ubume attacks first and Ibaraki cleans up.c. The disadvantage of this build is that it is prone to crowd control builds or enemies who use the Soul [Mirror Lady]. 2. Kamaitachi, Yamausagi, Zashki/Kaguya, Red Imp, Ibaraki Doji Red Imp, despite being an N Shikigami, has an active skill [Provocation] can amplify a target’s damage taken by a hefty 40%!! Coupling with Seimei’s [Star] or [Death] skill, you can imagine how much excess damage Ibara Doji can inflict on the enemy party??
Soul Dungeon 1. Yamausagi, Zashki, Ibaraki Doji + 2 other DPS (preferably Ootengu and Yoto Hime)

Verdict |
Of all the SSR Shikigamis in Onmyoji, Ibaraki Doji probably has coolest voice acting and the flashiest skill animation. He has a demonic arm that replaced his missing one, and it has the power to obliterate almost everything! He has a very interesting history, so look it up on the net or unlock its story in the game once English version is released!
His special skill [Infernal Hand] deals 283% single target damage at max level. This is one of the highest percentage damage of all skills in the game, giving him a very good chance of killing a target with this. His passive skill [Rage Outlet] fully compliments this by splashing 50% of the excess damage to the remaining enemies. I would rate him as the best farming DPS in the game. Not only can he carry weaker fodders, but also he can do it much faster than other DPSs and this makes the process so much faster. He is definitely worth the effort to get to 6-stars! Aug 2018 – The latest update further strengthens Ibaraki. Most notably, his Rage Outlet now increases his damage if he fails to take out an enemy. This 100% additional damage is very useful in harder contents where killing off enemies in one hit is not possible. Farming (5.0/5.0) Ibaraki Doji is definitely one of the best and most wanted SSR Shikigami in Onmyoji. Personally, I would rate him to be the number one Farmer in the game especially when he has a good Critical Damage stat with decent Critical Chance. He is able to just one hit kill all the mobs with one skill and there you go reaping fast EXP in just seconds!! Previously, players have to manually target the enemy with the lowest HP in order to maximize Ibaraki Doji’s EXP grinding efficiency. In a recent update, Ibaraki Doji now will automatically aim at the target with the lowest HP. This way, players can just auto their way through. Additionally, having an awakened Tesso in your party will net 8% more coins but, of course, that means one less fodder to level up.
Arena (3.0/5.0) At high-level arena, Ibaraki Doji is not the first choice DPS because he is only strong if he overkills a target and splashes additional AOE damage to the other enemies. This is made difficult when the HP of the enemies are leveled up and the HP bonus in Arena. Furthermore, there are many factors such as Shuzu’s [Water Circuit] and the use of Soul Edge that reduce the possibility of him over killing a target. Some players use him as a second DPS to finish off weakened enemies but Shuzu is still a very hard counter. If you have a very good set of [Shadow], equipping on Arakawa Lord would probably be better for Arena.
Raid Battle (3.5/5.0) Similar to Arena battles, the possibility of Ibaraki Doji successfully one hit killing enemies is lowered by Shuzu’s [Water Circuit] and the use of Soul Edge. However, it is used more often in Raid Battles because the double HP bonus is not applied in this game mode. Hence, one hit killing the full enemy team is not impossible with a strong Ibaraki Doji. In addition, you are against AI in this case, and it’s not as smart as human players.
Soul Dungeon (3.5/5.0) Most players will use the Soul [Shadow] on Ibaraki Doji. As a result, you need to be the first attacking Shikigami to attack in order to reap the full damage potential. You will also need an extremely good set of Souls in order to use him well in the dungeon. Furthermore, you will need to manually choose the enemy with the least HP so you can overkill it and splash the damage to the other enemies. Not many players use him, but he can clear the first two waves fast as compared to a standard Ubume/Ootengu/Blade lineup. However, he’s not very useful in the final Boss fight against Orochi due to the amount of HP the enemy has. There are other more useful DPS for Soul Dungeons. Special mention – He, having high-quality Shadow, can partner up with Kamikui, Ushi no Toki, Zashiki, and Hakuro to be the fastest team to clear Soul 10 at this point. Of course, the team requirement is not easy especially SPD and Soul.
Guild Kirin/Kraken/Boss Battles (3.5/5.0) Multi-hit Shikigamis with the Soul [Seductress] are more preferred as compared to single hit Soul [Shadow]. Seductress has much higher damage output against enemies with ultra-high HP. In addition, the power of Ibaraki Doji comes with its splash damage and not consistent high damage output. Simply put, if the enemies cannot be OHKOed, then there are better choices than Ibaraki. The latest update gives more sustainability in Ibaraki’s attack. He is no longer uselss where he couldn’t OHKO enemies. This should be quite a bit of upgrade against Bosses that he couldn’t take out in one hit.
Insane strength, unbelievable coolness, and SSR rarity is the summary of Ibaraki. What else can you expect from this Shikigami? Be prepared to spend all your Black Darumas and max out his skills!
