Discussion:

While Shiro has S rank ATK, his skill is really support oriented.  With Soul choice, I would lean towards enhancing his survivability (HP and Effect RES) so that he can use Soul Call as many times as he can.

There are many choices depending on team setup.  Popular choices are Jizo to enhance overall survivability against high ATK teams.  Fortune Cat is always a welcome choice especially if you use a speedy Shiro.

Because of his skill, you would want to be mindful of his action sequence in a team and thus determine how much SPD he needs.  Soul Call shield would disappear after teammates act.

In the current state of the game, Shiro should really be the last to act so that his Soul Call shield could protect the team against the next wave of enemy attacks.  In the future, there would be a need to let him go faster to counter the dreaded Higanbana.

Sample Team

Shiro can fit into many teams to boost survivability.  He’s not a blitz attack unit aimed to finish the fight early.  His advantage increases as the battle drag on.

Yamausagi, Momo, Ame Onna, Hakuro, Shiro, with Kagura

If you want Shiro to guard the team against the next wave of attacks, he would have to be slow and act last.  That means you would need Yamausagi to speed him up or, in extreme cases, Kagura to get him to act immediately before the enemies attack.  The aim is to maintain survival while Hakuro picks enemies off one by one.  As more units are killed on the battlefield, Shiro’s Soul Call is more damaging.  The advantage is that Soul Call does not heavily rely on Shiro’s ATK toward the end.

PvP

With multi-hit attackers being so prominent in the current state of the game, Shiro’s use is limited.  Though he does have future use to counter certain high damaging teams in the future.  I would level him up a bit if you have the resources.

Soul

Shiro is not a fast attacker so I would not use him for Soul 10 runs.

PVE

He’s quite useful in PVE, especially when against hard Bosses.  He can work with Seimei to keep providing shields to the team to mitigate quite a bit of damage.  In addition, he can speed up Evo 10 by summoning the ghosts of the minions.  Not that Evo 10 is really that hard but he can make your life easier.

Shikigami Comparison

Onmyoji Mobile Game - Shikigami KoiKoi – Besides Shiro, Koi can also cast AOE shield to protect all allies.  The difference is that Koi’s shield is based on her HP and lasts 2 turns while Shiro’s shield just block 1 damage for 1 turn, no matter how much the damage.  There are pros and cons for the two.  Koi’s shield would be better for multi hit attacks since the shield does not disappear after one hit.  Shiro’s shield is better against one hit devastating blows.  Koi’s role is pure support since she lacks attacking skills while Shiro would become an impressive attacker as the fight drags on and units die off.

Ichimokuren – Ichimokuren is not out on Global yet but this guy is very much the ultimate defender in Onmyoji.  His AOE shield is superior to Koi’s and to be honest, not too far off from Shiro’s because there isn’t really any unit that can take out his shield in one hit.  Of course, not a single Shikigami is invincible in this game and we shall discuss more when he releases.

Verdict

Shiro has been underwhelming for so long and the recent upgrade made him a viable choice.  At this point, we can see that he has a very good shield skill to protect against damage.  I think that would earn him a place low to mid SPD teams to counter high speed teams.

Farming (1.0/5.0)

While he does have AOE attack, but it’s not impressive so I would rule him out as a farmer.

Duel/Raid (3.0/5.0)

I probably should rank him higher but decided to be a bit more conservative.  He would make a good choice as a support in the slower turtle teams.

Boss Battles (4.0/5.0)

Whenever I think of hard boss fights, I would think Totem.  I can see Shiro putting up shields to block off the Bosses’ attacks and counters to increase the survivability of the team.

Soul (1.0/5.0)

Not recommended due to him being a slow attacker

Shiro has finally received a well-deserved upgrade and can now catch up to his brother just a bit in the world of Onmyoji.  He is going to be a good choice in keeping the team alive and his late battle damage is quite significant.  Though he does have to compete with many other supports for a spot on the team.  I would think he would make scatter appearances depending on the situation and team strategy.
