Evolution Ability Enhanced [Cursed Eye]: AOE 100% (+ Effect HIT) to inflict Gaze on all enemies for 1 turn.  Under Gaze, all Orb-consuming skills become Evil Light.  Using Evil Light causes enemies to take damage equal to 211% of Dodomeki’s ATK and free all allies from Gaze.  Upon Evolving, Evil Light will cause the enemy 3 orbs

Example: Fortune Cat/Tree Nymph/Senecio/Mirror Lady etc. x4 + Effect RES x2

Position 2/4/6: SPD/Effect RES or Effect HIT/HP or DEF

Although she has a potentially strong attacking skill, I consider Dodomeki a control unit rather than a DPS

All things considered, Fortune Cat is probably the best choice for Dodomeki: she’ll be fast to take advantage of the Soul and compensate her for using her skill.

Using Dodomeki means you want to play around with the enemy’s orb usage so it is natural for Tree Nymph to come in at some point.  If you can’t figure out where to put this Soul, Dodomeki is one of the candidates.  In addition, Dodomeki could use the extra DEF to help to stay alive.

Senecio/Mirror Lady have the use of deterring enemies from focusing their attacks on Dodomeki.  After all, Dodomeki is not exactly very tanky and she’ll draw quite a bit of enemy fire.

Temptress/Shy Soul/etc. – If you are stacking Effect HIT on Dodomeki, these souls would provide an additional layer of control upon damage.  Those these would be blocked by shields.

Offensive Souls – Additional damage to Dodomeki’s already high attack.  These souls will make enemies take extra damage once they are under the control of Dodomeki.

As a control unit, SPD really defaults for position 2.  In Dodomeki’s case, you would want her to be able to act and attack as often as you could to keep the status on enemies.  More so if you are using Fortune Cat on her.  Position 4 can either be Effect RES or Effect HIT.  Personally, I lean towards Effect RES since her Cursed Eye has high innate Effect HIT.  Stacking Effect HIT in substats is usually enough.  Though in high-level Duel and for a fast team, stacking as much Effect HIT on her as possible to make sure her Gaze gets through to all enemies.  As for position 6, I would say using HP to give her more survivability.  While you could give her ATK to boost some ATK, I prefer to use her mainly for orb control.

Sample Team

Kamaitachi, Aoandon, Hana, Shouzu, Dodomeki, with Kagura

Kamaitachi, Hannya, Ame Onna, Dodomeki, Hououga, with Hiromasa

Dodomeki is a different type of control unit where she essentially silences enemies by forcing enemies to use Evil Light.  This would cause enemies to (1) not be able to use skills, (2) wastes orbs, and (3) takes damage.  For the team set up, we can make use of her ability to waste enemy orbs by partnering up with Aoandon to steal enemy orbs.  Of course, Tree Nymph is also a first class choice in the team.

Alternatively, Dodomeki can be in teams with control units such as Hannya and Hououga.  Naturally, the enemy would bring some units (Usagi, Juzu, etc) to cleanse the status effects.  By using Dodomeki, these cleansing units would unable to actively dispell status effects and are forced to skip the turn.  Note that Ame Onna cleanses Gaze so you’ll need Hannya there to seal her passive or put her under Daze/Morph.

Dodomeki is going to be useful in PvP to disrupt the enemy flow.  I would suggest partnering her up with another control such as Hannya to counter Ame Onna.

There really isn’t any use for her to be in Soul.

I can’t imagine Bosses to be affected by Gaze but she would be useful if the stage has minion fighting alongside the Boss.  Since AI is not as smart as humans, Dodomeki could probably use a bit more ATK.

Shikigami Comparison

Juzu – Juzu is similar to Dodomeki in that enemy’s actions determine these two Shikigami’s effect  the fight.  In this regard, Juzu has more certainty since the enemy just have to act for her Beads to start counting.  Dodomeki relies on the enemy doing critical hits or using her own skill.  In terms of effectiveness, it really depends.  If the enemy relies heavily on Orbs, then Dodomeki would be more damaging.  Overall, though, I feel like Juzu has a boarder use.  Juzu could stand firmer against enemy attacks and status effects whereas Dodomeki is relatively more fragile.

Onmyoji Mobile Game - Shikigami MoubaMouba – While it is not obvious at first, Dodomeki and Mouba shares the same characteristics for AOE silence.  The difference is that it is easier to dispel Dodomeki’s Gaze than Mouba’s Silence.  Though Dodomeki’s skill triggers more often with the ability to waste enemy orbs.  Dodomeki is also faster, which is an advantage for a control unit.  Overall, Dodomeki would have an advantage over Mouba for being able to inflict Silence outside her turn as well as having a higher innate Effect HIT.

Summon, Demon Parade, Demon Seal (limited time)

Wanted Quest

The thing that is really special about Dodomeki is the way she disrupts enemies.  In a way, she essentially casts Silence on the entire enemy team (with high innate Effect HIT) with an added effect to remove enemy orbs.  This puts the enemy in an awkward position where if choosing to dispel Evil Light, the 3 orbs would go down the drain.  Otherwise, by waiting the turn out means the whole team undergoes silence for the whole turn or until another unit come in and dispel the effect.

Several notes on her skills:

  • Gaze can be dispelled
  • Evil Light is indirect damage which means it doesn’t trigger Soul/Passive etc. but I believe it does trigger Dodomeki’s Soul effect
  • Gaze is not stackable if there are two Dodomeki
  • Gaze does not go through Seimei’s shield but does go through Shikigami shields
  • Multi-hit critical would only trigger Ghost Eye once
  • Critical on dealing damage or healing can trigger Ghost Eye (to be confirmed)
  • Ootengu does not mitigate Gaze
  • Critical hits on shields can still trigger Ghost Eye

Farming (0.0/5.0)

Not useful at all.  Farming is not her area of expertise.

Duel/Raid (4.0/5.0)

She’s the bane of some teams’ existence.  Essentially if the enemies rely on Orbs, Dodomeki will be effective against them.  Some examples include Shouzu, Ichimukoren, Shishio, etc.  In addition, she’ll be effective against Higanbana too for Higanbana is usually equipped with high Crit % and this means Ghost Eye will get triggered often

Boss Battles (3.0/5.0)

Dodomeki is not really enough to kick anyone out of the big Boss fight teams.  In the future, she could be used against True Orochi when he is released.  Other than that, I think she can also show up for some Secret stages.

Soul (0.0 /5.0)

Not useful in Soul runs.

To me, Dodomeki is PvP focused with some PvE use.  I see her as an alternative to the popular Samurai X as an effective control Shikigami.  She definitely needs to max her Passive and Special attacks to realize her full potential.  She is very suitable in long fights where she has more chances to disrupt the enemy’s orb supply.  To summarize her advantage: high Effect HIT for her skill, being able to counter control with her passive, and low Soul requirement.  Ame Onna would be an effective counter for her so you would want to partner her with someone who can keep Ame Onna at bay.  Since Tamamo and Yuki came out at the same time, I would say G5 would be enough with proper defensive support on the team.  That would leave some resources for our favourite SSRs.
