Position 2/4/6: HP or SPD/HP/HP or Crit % or Crit DMG

Discussion:

Bukkuman is a unique Shikigami in that is not exactly a DPS but able to deal a lot of damage.  His soul choice would follow those of supports.

Fortune Cat – This is a recommended Soul choice for Bukkuman.  The reason is that Bukkuman teams are very orb consuming so having one or more Fortune Cat sets would help very much.

Azure Basan – This soul has a similar purpose as Fortune Cat to supply orbs for the team.  Azure Basan is more for a quick fight in which you need the initial orbs.

Mirror Lady/Jizo Statue/Tree Nymph etc. – All other support souls are not as useful as Fortune Cat because Bukkuman is a PvE Shikigami.  Most other souls works wonders in PvP but not so much for PvE.  If you somehow need to use Bukkuman’s HP recovery skill, Tree Sprite is a choice.

Claw etc. – Bukkuman does not have the stat nor skills to make full use of offensive Souls like Claw but is an option if you are room for a little more attack power.

Bukkuman enjoys having high HP for him to accommodate more damage to unleash upon the enemy.  Naturally, we would want to have as much HP on him as possible.  SPD is a delicate issue with Bukkuman in that you don’t want him to outspeed DPSs too much so that he run pass the attackers before they attack.  I would say building SPD in sub-stat is usually enough.  Effect RES does not need to be that high because he is used only for PvE but if you have it, why not.  In terms of offensive stat for position 6, the following is one way to go about it.

  • Crit DMG (if you have decent Crit %) for single DPS teams – not enough damage otherwise for high DEF bosses like True Orochi or Totem 3
  • Crit % for double DPS teams – two DPS should pretty much hit the damage cap
  • HP for three DPS – three DPS would easily hit the damage cap so need more HP to raise the cap

Sample Team

Bukkuman, Ushi no Toki, Tesso, Zashiki, Futakuchi, Kagura

Bukkuman, Ushi no Toki, Ubume, Zashiki, Kisei, with Seimei

Bukkuman team set up is rather simple.  The sequence goes Bukkuman casts his skill, the DPSs attack, then Bukkuman releases the damage again.  Essentially this doubled the damage done in one turn.  Common teammates would include Ushi no Toki to greatly multiply damage.

PvP

Not much recommendation here since Bukkuman is purely used for PvE.

Soul

He can substitute for one of the DPSs that you usually bring as he duplicated damage for the other two.  In this case, the other two DPS would need to be able to clear the mobs in the first turn so that Bukkuman only has to face Orochi.  Letting the Aoadan attack really jeopardizes the team.

PVE

Usually, Bukkuman pairs up with Ushi no Toki, one orb generator, and DPSs.  There are also Tesso that can reduce enemy DEF and Kagura to allow DPSs attack again.

Shikigami Comparison

Bukkuman is really unique so I can’t really find much of a comparison.  He replicates damage so is more deadly if your whole team does more damage.  This is different than what we usually see for DPS where we need good Souls and high Grade for damage output

Acquisition

Summon, Demon Parade

Wanted Quest

Verdict

This is the best unit for Totem 3.  With him and few other good teammates, you are looking at a minute run on Totem.  That being said, you do need to max his Scroll of Everything.

Farming (1.0/5.0)

He’s not a conventional DPS so don’t count on him to carry fodders by himself.

Duel/Raid (2.0/5.0)

Bukkuman would have a trouble finding a place in a team now that high-level duel teams usually have one conventional DPS at most.  He does have more healing power.  Still, he is hard to find a place on the team.

Boss Battles (5.0/5.0)

This guy is made for Boss fights.  He relies on other DPS to do damage but is able to speed up the fight very much, especially the Bosses with high HP.  If you are bringing two other DPSs, that is equivalent to 4 DPs as Bukkuman duplicates damage.

Soul (2.5/5.0)

He is usable in Soul but is not amongst the top Soul runners.  While he delivers high enough damage, he needs to wait for his turn to unleash that damage.  This means an extra few seconds to the Soul fight.  Not to mentioned that means he doesn’t do well against the crowds before Orochi.  I would stick with the convention 3 DPSs set up to be safe.

To me, Bukkuman is one of those Shikigamis that everyone should at least have one.  He would make Totem fight feel like a breeze and thus opens up another way to get G6 souls effectively.  He does not need to be in G6 to work but does require a bit of skill up.  If you have a lot of Black Darumas, feed him some and he will increase your PvE gameplay tremendously.  Of course, if you only care about PvP, then save those Blacks for other Shikigamis.
